Lumière Shot
The Cinalfama association, in partnership with the National Film Plan, has launched the Lumière Shot project, which will be part of a future global amateur cinema event.
We are counting on firm and relevant partners such as the National Film Plan, Cinemateca Portuguesa, the Municipal Archive and Antena 3 to make it a reality.
Our team includes renowned cinema figures such as Leonor Teles, Pedro Cabeleira and Pedro Costa.
What we propose
With this project, we aim to promote film literacy and culture, building bridges between cinema of the past and the present. The return to the Lumière brothers is precisely the creation of a link with the roots of cinema, its origins.
In 1895, the Lumière brothers invented the cinematograph, a device that made it possible to capture a series of still images (frames) that, when projected in sequence, created the illusion of movement. These first films were about 50 seconds long, a format that inspired the name of the exercise Lumière Minute : filming a continuous one-minute shot, replicating the simplicity of the early days of cinema .
The Lumière Plan is a powerful pedagogical tool for introducing cinema. Although simple in its conception, this exercise raises a series of challenges, from the composition of the gaze to the relationship with reality and with others.
We invite all schools to participate in this project, in partnership with the National Cinema Plan.
The films made by the students will be shown in public sessions, providing them with the experience of seeing their work submitted for constructive assessment by their peers, in an equally formative process.
Exercise
Lumiere Shot
The Lumière Plan Exercise is presented by Alain Bergala in his essay "cinema-hypothesis". In it, the author breaks down the creative process of cinema into 3 essential mental operations:
Choose , select real elements from the various options.
Arrangement , organize these elements in space .
Attack : decide the angle/point of view from which you will film.
This exercise consists of making a film with a single shot of an everyday action, without cuts, using a single fixed shot. The camera must remain still for the entire minute and be supported on a stable surface or tripod, without any movement throughout the recording time.
This partnership between Cinalfama and the National Cinema Plan aims to support the promotion of film literacy in schools, in Portugal and abroad . The project offers support and information to all participants, integrating cinema into the school curriculum and establishing partnerships with entities in the audiovisual sector. It also ensures the dissemination and screening of films in an educational way, enriching the experience of school communities .
Our team is fully available to design and develop workshops in the area of cinema, or guide school groups to promote this art.
With the Lumière Plan, we want to bring cinema and the Cinalfama community closer to schools, promoting an immersive and educational cinematic experience.
